My Summer Skincare Roundup

Summertime can be a trying time for my skin. The heat and blazing sun can be difficult, especially for breakouts and oil production.  Pollution and other environmental contaminants take away the skin’s natural radiance, leaving it oily, dull, and blemished.

Keep reading to find out how I change my skincare routine for summer to combat summer skin troubles.

How Does Summer Affect My Skin?

The increase in temperatures during the summer months, combined with humidity and heat, can increase the activity of the sebaceous glands in the skin. This makes oily skin appear oilier and dry skin appears rough and patchy. The intensity of the sun’s rays also causes tanning by producing more melanin pigments. The heat can also cause more pores to open, which can get clogged with dirt and oil, trapping bacteria, causing acne, pimples, and blemishes on the face.

Summertime is an important time to nail down a solid skincare routine. The first thing I change when the heat starts to rise is my face wash. While in winter months, a nourishing face wash does the trick, in summer months, I switch to a face wash that can draw out the excess oil from my skin. If you have dry skin, consider using a non-foaming cleanser. This would be ideal for combination skin as well. My go-to summertime face wash is MintPear’s Clarifying Daily Facial Cleanser with Activated Charcoal. Activated Charcoal is a Charcoal that has been treated to increase its adsorptive capacity. This causes the Charcoal to act as a magnet for dirt, oil, and other impurities and stick to it. Activated charcoal, when used in a face cleanser, helps bind the oil and dirt in the pores and pulls them out. This clears your pores and makes them look smaller. helps pull out the excess oil from the skin, leaving it clean and smooth.

Add In An Antioxidant Serum

I always am sure to add in a good antioxidant serum to my summer skincare routine. Not only does an antioxidant serum hydrate your skin, but it also protects my skin from environmental damage. It helps to boost collagen production and will scavenge harmful free radicals to prevent skin damage. Antioxidant serums are great for combination skin as well as normal to oily skin during summer. MintPear’s Collagen Serum does just the trick. Collagen works together with another protein called elastin to strengthen the skin and help it snap back into place when stretched. MintPear’s Best-Selling Collagen Serum will inject the youth back into my skin with just one simple step!

P.S. Remember that you can include antioxidants in your skincare regimen by adding them to your diet as well. Stock up on citrus fruits, green and leafy vegetables, green tea, nuts, and whole grains to have younger-looking skin.

Stay Hydrated – Your Skin Will Thank You!

Summer is the time when my skin requires moisture as well as hydration. I Invest in a good hydrating mask and I am sure to use it a couple of times a week. I wash my face first and apply the mask as directed at night to repair, rehydrate, and soothe my skin. A mask can treat specific skin conditions like dryness, acne, oil, etc. Pick the appropriate mask and spend those 10 extra minutes wiping away the stress, fatigue, and blemishes from your skin.

I also make sure to stay hydrated, especially if I am outside a lot during the hot summer days. Skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without water, the organs will certainly not function properly or at their best. If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky.

Lighten Your Makeup Load

Summer means that I adjust my makeup routine as well as my skincare routine. I wear minimal facial makeup to allow my skin to breathe better. Humidity and heat suppress the skin’s ability to breathe and stress it out. I avoid anything heavy on the face. Using a tinted moisturizer and tinted lip balm in the summer gives my skin some rest and let’s my natural summer glow shine through.

Change Your Moisturizer

Come summer, I ditch those heavy cold creams and shea butter-laden moisturizers for a lighter moisturizer. My favorite lightweight moisturizer (I actually use this one year-round) is MintPear’s Vitamin Rich Daily Moisturizer. This lightweight daily moisturizer is proven to instantly enhance skin’s moisture & radiance as it works to improve suppleness & visible tone & texture. Don’t be under the misunderstanding that your skin requires no moisture in the summer. Skincare in summer calls for a lighter and non-greasy product that suits the weather.
